 Liberia Battles Spreading Ebola Epidemic

It was a violent scene when angry young men hurled rocks and stormed barbed-wire barricades trying to break out of a neighbourhood that had been cordoned off by the government.

According to New York Times, soldiers repelled the surging crowd with live rounds, driving hundreds of young men back into the neighbourhood, a slum of tens of thousands in Monrovia known as West Point.

A 15-year-old teen Shakie Kamara lay on the ground near the barricade, his right leg apparently wounded by a bullet. “Help me”, he pleaded.

The National Police’s head of operations Lieutenant Col. Abraham Kromah arrived a few minutes later.
“This is messed up,” Kromah said looking at the teenager. “They injured one of my police officers. That’s not cool. It’s a group of criminals that did this. Look at this child. God in heaven help us.”

EBOLA- Relatives of Infected Victims in Liberia Dump Bodies on the Streets

Ebola in Siera Leone

Presently nearly 900 people across West Africa have died from the deadly Ebola virus.

The Information Minister of Liberia Lewis Brown, said yesterday that a few Liberians have started dragging the bodies of their loved ones who are infected with the virus, onto the streets out of fear that they will risk their own health.

The man pictured above is one of the many Ebola victims who have been dragged out of their homes and dumped on the country’s roads by terrified relatives in a desperate bit to avoid being quarantined.

“They are therefore removing the bodies from their homes and are putting them out in the street. They’re exposing themselves to the risk of being contaminated. We’re asking people to please leave the bodies in their homes and we’ll pick them up.” Brown said.
