Shoprite Worker Commits Suicide In Akure After Being Suspended From Work


 A 23-year-old woman and employee of Shoprite in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Jumoke Kehinde, has reportedly committed suicide after being suspended from work.


Kehinde was found dead on New Year’s Eve at her apartment along Oda Road in the Kajola area of Akure.

She was said to have allegedly taken a substance suspected to be Sniper, a pesticide, after being suspended from work.

One of the organisation’s managers, who gave his name as Taiwo, told journalists that the deceased reported late for work and some other staff members on the fateful day.

Atiku Abubakar Receives Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine In Dubai (Photos)


 
Nigeria’s former vice president, Atiku Abubakar reportedly took the Pfizer’s vaccine in the United Arab Emirates.

The people’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections took the dose in Dubai to prevent symptomatic cases of Covid-19.

The Pfizer’s vaccine, when administered in its full two-dose regimen, was found to be 95 percent effective at preventing symptomatic cases of Covid-19.

The effectiveness rate of the vaccine was hailed as a very welcome news amid soaring coronavirus caseloads.

FCMB Names Yemisi Edun As Acting Managing Director

 


First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has appointed an acting Managing Director and she is Mrs Yemisi Edun, an executive director on the board of the bank.

She is taking over from the Mr Adam Nuhu, who stepped aside from the exalted position to allow for an investigation into the allegation of unethical behaviour by him.

He was accused of having a romantic affair with a former employee of the financial institution, Mrs Moyo Thomas. The alleged romance produced two children, according to reports.








UNILAG Professor, Duro Ajeyalemi Dies Of COVID-19 Disease

 


The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has lost another prominent professor, Duro Ajeyalemi, to coronavirus disease.

The late Professor Ajeyalemi, who retired at the age of 70 from the university in November, in 2020, was a former dean of the institution’s faculty of education and the pioneer registrar of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB).

The university’s deputy vice-chancellor in charge of development services, Folasade Ogunsola, who confirmed the development said the institution’s management was “again shocked to receive the news of the death of another great scholar.”

“It is true Professor Ajeyalemi is dead. We are still in shock. Nigerians should know that COVID-19 is real and they should please use masks appropriately,” Mrs Ogunsola told our reporter on the phone.

The late don reportedly died at the isolation centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, in Lagos.

Davido Joins Family Business as Director



Davido has finally joined one of his family businesses.

The singer announced this in social media saying it's 2021 and he is already getting into his family business gradually.

He announced himself as the Director of Pacific Holdings Limited.

He tweeted: “omo nah 2021 o I dun dey chook head small small” .

Pacific holding is said to consist 6 subsidiary companies that includes: Pacific Drilling Company Ltd, Pacific Farm Ltd., Intertrade Warehousing Ltd., Junior Venture Ltd., Pacific Freightliners Ltd., and Pacific Gas Company Ltd. Davido last year had hinted he was not the richest in his family, as his elder brothers who are into his family business are way richer than him.




Veteran Broadcaster & Actor, Mazi Ukonu Is Dead

 


Veteran Actor, comedian, singer and broadcaster, Chief Mazi Anyogu Elekwachi Ukonu, has died at 90, Igbere TV can confirm.

Born on March 5, 1930, Ukonu was from Igbere Bende Local Government Area.

Though the family is yet to issue a statement, Mazi Ukonu died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, a sourced told our correspondent.

The Doyen of broadcasting and entertainment, Mazi Ukonu is one of the first Nigerian actors to star in Hollywood productions including William Witney's 'Panama Say' (1957) and Walter Grauman's 'The Disembodied' (1957).





Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat's Brother Dies of Covid-19

 


Dr Haroun Olalekan Hamzat, half-brother to the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, is dead.

His death was announced on Tuesday, 5 January, 2021 by the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.

According to the statement, the young medical doctor who worked in one of the public health centres in Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, LCDA, was aged 37.

Further investigation from Orile Agege LCDA revealed that the young doctor may have died from complications arising from Covid-19 infection.

Deeper Life School Saga: Accused Student Denies Bullying & Molesting Don Davies

 


One of the students who allegedly molested and bullied 11-year-old Don Davies Archibong in Deeper Life High School, Idoro, Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Shalom Omoniyi, has denied the allegation levelled against him.

Parents of Don-Davies, Mr and Mrs Iniobong Archibong, had in a letter to the School through their Solicitors, Eagle-Eyes Network Chambers, dated December 22, 2020, alleged that Shalom and Ola engaged in sexual molestation of Don-Davies , oppressed him because he bed-wets at night.

Narrating his own side of the story, 13-year-old SS1 student and an indigene of Ekiti state, Shalom Omoniyi said their Boarding master, identified as Mr Nseabasi Joseph only asked him and Ola to help Don-Davies learn how to keep himself clean.

Shalom said that Joseph only gave him the task because Don-Davies was his bunkmate for two weeks.

His words, “Don-Davies was my bunkmate. I resumed School on November 1, 2020, to meet him as my bunkmate. But I was told that he was removed from the Junior students hostel to the Senior Students because the boarding of the Junior hostel Mr Akpan was sick and left his apartment within the School premises.

Court Jails Ex-Finbank MD, Nwosu, Three Others For ₦10.9 Billion Fraud

 


Justice Lateefa A. Okunnu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, convicted and sentenced Okey Nwosu, a former Managing Director, Finbank Plc, to three years imprisonment for over 10bn fraud.


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had arraigned Nwosu alongside Dayo Famuroti, Agnes Ebubedike and Danjuma Ocholi on a 26-count amended charge bordering on stealing and illegal conversion to the tune of N10,934,704,402.

The defendants, who perpetrated the fraud while they were directors of the bank, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them, thereby leading to their full trial.

In the course of the trial, the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs , SAN, called witnesses and also tendered several documents that were admitted in evidence against the defendants.

Delivering her judgment, the Judge found the defendants guilty and sentenced the first and second defendants, Nwosu and Famoroti, to three years imprisonment each.








Paternity Scandal: FCMB's MD, Adam Nuru Goes On Leave As Probe Begins

 


The Managing Director, First City Monument Bank Limited, Adam Nuru, has been forced to go on leave to enable the bank to investigate the paternity allegations against him.

This was disclosed in a statement by the bank on Tuesday.

The statement read, “We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’ s Managing Director, Adam Nuru; a former employee , Mrs Moyo Thomas, and her deceased husband , Mr Tunde Thomas.

“ While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct require the bank’ s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of this code of ethics .
