Tragedy struck yesterday in Akoko area of Ondo State following the
death of the Interim Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Mrs.
Opeyemi Adefarati and six others in a fatal auto crash.
An eyewitness said: “It was a horrible sight to behold on Thursday
night when a trailer rammed into a number of vehicles and instantly
killed all the occupants of the vehicles at the Iwaro Oka junction.”
Until her death, Mrs. Adefarati was a grassroots politician and an
advocate of women emancipation. She has been active politically in the
last 10 years. The deceased took active part during the last
governorship election in the state.
She was a member of Alliance for Democracy (AD) before she joined the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), from where she defected to Labour Party
(LP), where she contested for the House of Assembly ticket against the
incumbent deputy Speaker, but lost to him.
The remains of late council boss and other victims of the auto
accident have been deposited at Ikare General Hospital’s morgue.
