Acting on the orders of the Dean of Students Affairs of
University of Lagos, UNILAG, Dr. Ademola Adeleke, the Lagos State
Command of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has arrested student activists
who visited Akoka campus to negotiate on behalf of their rusticated
colleagues.
The university earlier sent home students who had protested in 2015
against poor sanitation at student halls of residence, including a
student that had already graduated last year and a blind undergraduate.

While on the way from the dean’s office where they had gone to
express their grievance, the protesting students were ambushed by
security men.
One of the students who escaped arrest told SaharaReporters that the
dean must have anticipated the visit of the students and therefore had
planned for their apprehension.
He said the dean refused to meet the students despite all entreaties
because he had alerted the security men to arrest any protesting
student. The dean’s action was a contradiction to the commitment he made
earlier to intervene in the matter affecting the rusticated students,
he said.
Those arrested including Adeyeye Olurunfemi, a 400-level student of
the Department of Building, rusticated for publishing Facebook post
critical of the university authorities; Lawrence Success, a blind
student as well as members of students’ Union from other campuses.
Those arrested students have been transferred to "Panti" police
station and are still being held at the police station at the time of
filing this story.
