Former James Bond star Sir Roger Moore has died in
Switzerland at the age of 89 after a short battle with cancer, his
family has announced. A message shared on the actor's official Twitter
account read: "With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news
that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all
devastated."
He was an English actor. He was the third actor to play the British secret agent James Bond in seven feature films between 1973 and 1985 and Simon Templar in The Saint between 1962 and 1969.
Moore took over the role of Bond from Sean Connery in 1972, and made his first appearance as 007 in Live and Let Die (1973). The longest serving Bond to date, Moore portrayed the spy in six more films: The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985)
