The tragic incident took place on Sunday evening, ending the life of a much-loved and respected national team shot-stopper.
South Africa and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead on Sunday in Vosloorus, South Africa.
The exact details of the incident are yet to transpire, but the South
African Police Service (SAPS) have provided confirmation of the South
African international's tragic death.
The 27-year-old was declared dead upon arrival at hospital, according
to the authorities, who appealed for calm as people rushed to the
hospital and the house where he was shot to grieve and pay their
respects.
According to reports, Meyiwa, 27, who played a match for Orlando Pirates on Saturday night, was at his girlfriend's house, SA pop star Kelly Khumalo (pictured right), when three men entered the home in Vosloorus, Johannesburg to rob them. Meyiwa ended up getting shot in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. No one else in the house was hurt.
