A Nigerian embassy official in the United Kingdom was caught on tape by claiming he could influence the transportation of items, including stolen goods out of any airport in the country using his diplomatic influence.
The embassy official, Alfa Abutu, who was filmed secretly by an undercover team for UK’s ITV Exposure, unwittingly exposed himself.
Abutu told the ITV Exposure team that the items will be wrapped in the Nigerian national flag and moved anywhere.
“Give me your suitcase, this suitcase usually has to be wrapped
with the national flag before we can move it anywhere. And we use
diplomatic vehicle whereby the police authorities will not stop us,”
Abutu said.
Abutu, who has reportedly been
suspended by the Nigerian High Commission in the UK also claimed he
could help transfer money, and smuggle diamonds and gold out of the
country using an embassy car and its associated privileges.
