No fewer than four persons were injured
while 28 vehicles were vandalised on Thursday as rampaging youths
wreaked havoc in Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.
It was learnt that the incident was the
continuation of a long drawn conflict between two youth groups in the
area. A group was said to have attacked the other after a ceasefire
since February. The resultant clash spilled to residents of the area.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the rampaging youths, numbering about 40, also robbed residents and vandalised shops in the area.
It was learnt that the violence began around 12am after the football match between Barcelona FC and Real Madrid FC.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity,
said, “Around 12:20am, after the football match, we started hearing
gunshots; so many of us ran into into our houses. But I looked through
the window of my room. The hoodlums shot one man known as Baba Khadija.
They also robbed some recharge card vendors on Apapa Road.
“From Apapa Road, they went to Olokodana
and then Brickfield streets where they vandalised all the vehicles
parked on the roads. They also ransacked some shops and beat up some
residents. Another man, Mr. Nurudeen Ladega, was cut in the arm with a
machete.”
