Donna Summer Dies at 63

The great Donna Summer is a Singer/Songwriter who enjoyed great success on the Billboard charts during the 1970′s and 1980′s.

Prior to her solo career, she was a back-up singer for the group “Three Dog Night“.
Her first album was released in 1974.

Over the course of her career, she has released 17 Studio albums and numerous compilation and Greatest
Hits Albums.

Her latest Album, “Crayons“, was released in 2008.

The 1982 hit “State of Independence” features a backing choir that included Micheal Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie, and Stevie Wonder.

The “unique” lyrics to the song “MacArthur Park” have resulted in the song being parodied on shows such as “Saturday Night Live”, “Seinfeld”, “The Drew Carey Show”, “The Simpsons”, and many others. The song was originally recorded by actor Richard Harris in 1968.


She has charted 21 hits into the Billboard Top-40 charts.
Four of her hits have reached #1 on the Billboard charts.

She has had 33 singles reach the Top-100 on the Billboard Charts.

An amazing 21 of her singles have hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Charts.
She has won Five Grammy Awards during her career.
She was the first female artist to have four #1 singles within a 13-month period on the Billboard charts.

According to Billboard, she is the Eighth most successful female artist of All-Time in music history.



This talented and beautiful lady still tours the globe performing her many hits nearly 40 years after releasing her first album .
*** Donna Summer passed away on May 17, 2012 after a long battle with Cancer. She was 63 years old. This classy and talented lady will be GREATLY missed and will remain a musical icon for generations to come.
