It was meant to be a day of fun
and celebration but the reverse was the case as pandemonium broke out at
the Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo when two students were
reportedly crushed to death at the weekend by a commercial bus plying
the area.
One of the survivor student is currently receiving treatment at the Ondo Trauma Center.
The
incident occurred at about 10:45 pm last Friday, during the college’s
“Asun Night” organised by the Alumni members of the institution, as part
of the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the ACE, held at its
campus.
MORE AFTER THE CUT.............................
It was learnt that the development nearly marred the
celebration, but for the timely intervention of the police. Sources said
the victims Akinkuotu Toyosi, a part three student of the English
department and another student, Omobolawa Bola part four student of
physics, were said to be returning from the event, when the incident
happened.
Painfully, the two promising students died on the spot,
the situation which triggered protest among the students, who trooped to
the streets to protest the death of their colleagues. They were said to
have blocked the major roads in the community, which led to traffic
gridlock in various parts of the ancient town. However, the situation
prompted head of various security organisations in the community to
mobilize their members, who positioned themselves in strategic locations
in the area, apparently to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
