In the 1993, Late Chief MKO Abiola contested the for post of the president
of Nigeria under the political party Social Democratic Party (SDP) with his
running mate as Baba Gana Kingibe and defeated the presidential candidate for
the National Republican Convention (NRC), Alhaji Bashir Tofa hands down as
Nigerians trooped out massively to vote for Late Chief MKO Abiola and SDP.
Nigerians were in joyous mood that the after so many years of military
leadership, they have finally voted for the “MAN OF THE PEOPLE” The 1993 election
was tagged “The most peaceful election
ever held in Nigeria since Independence”, “The freest and fairest election in
Nigeria since independence”
On June 24 1993, General Ibrahim Babangida annulled the election that should
have brought into power Chief MKO and would have shaped the future of Nigeria
forever.
20 years after the election and 14 years into our renascent democracy,
Nigeria is getting into deeper troubles every day. Militant organizations have
been continuously putting knives on things that held us together and the centre
cannot hold. But of all these ethnic organizations: OPC, MASSOB, MEND, BOKO
HARAM etc
Rate the presidents and Heads of State since 1993.
