Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Hope Eghagha, was
today kidnapped in a deadly attack as he was returning from Warri to
Asaba, the capital of his home. It was learnt that the kidnappers shot and killed Mr. Eghagha’s police orderly before speeding
off with the commissioner towards Ubiarukwu road in Ukwuani local
government area in the state.
Mr. Eghagha, who holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos,
was a senior lecturer in the same university before accepting a
commissionership in the cabinet of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta.
For several years, Mr. Eghagha wrote a column in the (Nigerian)
Guardian and other newspapers. He also served as a part-time member of
the Guardian’s editorial board.
