After 13 weeks of voting, Mrs. Gladys
Asuquo, mother of award winning singer-song writer-producer, Cobhams,
has won the 2012 edition of Supermom celebrity show.
The former clerical officer in the
Nigerian Army clinched the winning prize of N2m after earning the
highest votes by fans and followers of the ten finalists.
According to the executive producer of
the show, Sola Fajobi, she is expected to donate her cash prize to a
charity of her choice and would be treated to an all-expense paid trip
to Dubai.
Fuji music star, Abass Akande Obesere’s
mother, Taibat Omobonike, emerged first runner up while Banky W’s Empire
Mates Entertainment rapper, Skales’ mother, is second runner up.
They both get N1m and N500,000 cash
respectively, which would also be donated to a charity of choice and an
all-expense paid trip to Dubai. Other runners up are Julius Agwu and
Tony Tetuila’s mothers.
Speaking on how Mrs. Asuquo’s story was
adjudged the best of the ten, Fajobi says, “Our viewers were moved to
tears by the story of how a Cobham turned his disability to a success
story.”
On how she managed to raise him despite
the inherent challenges, Mrs. Asuquo notes, “It wasn’t easy watching
Cobhams do chores around the house and run errands like my other
children but I resolved to make him as independent and capable of
achieving anything he sets his mind to do. I showed him where his box of
clothes was and would ask him to go get his clothes after bathing.”
