Female Banker Wrongly Accussed Of Killing LASTMA official in Lagos

I woke up to this story and i thought I should let people read as well as news stations and detectives go put machineries at work to dig out the truth about this story. I have heard 2 side of the story, one from a news paper and the othe from an eye witness.

See the Newspaper version

A female banker yesterday crushed a Lagos State  traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official, 33-year-old Hammed Balogun, to death along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, Lagos State.

Confirming the story, the General Manager LASTMA, Engr. Babatunde Edu, said the deceased was carrying out his official assignment at his duty post at Mega City, Ajah area of Lagos before he met his untimely death.

He said the driver fled the scene after crushing the LASTMA official to death, adding that she was later arrested with the help of the Area J Commander, ACP Felix Vwamhi.

He said; “The suspect drove in a Green Land-Rover Jeep SUV against traffic from Mega chicken inward toll Plaza Two.

”She was intercepted by three officials of LASTMA led by the Head of Operations, Mr Quayum Asafa for traffic violation and in a drama like scene, Johnson started driving recklessly in order to escape contravention and in the process ran over the officer.

”The deceased was rushed down to Germaine Hospital where he later died as a result of injuries sustained from the accident while the corpse was deposited at the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Ikeja for autopsy.”

Edu said the female banker on realising what she has done, ran and escaped from the scene of the incident into Ikota Estate, Ajah with the security men shutting the gate permanently.

He said: “The situation became riotous as the security attached to the gate refused all pleas to open the gate until the intervention of the Area Commander in charge of Area J, Mr Felix Vwahmi, mobilised and called for backup before access could be gained into the Estate.

”The suspect was finally arrested and taken to Ajiwe Police station from where she was transferred to the Criminal Investigative Department, Panti for further interrogation.”

See eye witness' story below

I was there live when it happened Yes she violated traffic laws, they were two cars at the scene. The other owned by a man. Lastma already was going to tow away her car when late balogun stated fighting with the owner of car two. And in the process a punch from the guy throw the Lastma official into the express where he was crashed by a danfo bus. Ofcos first instinct for her was to take off from d scene. Plsssss ooo dat lady is innocent she was not involved in the fight dat killed the guy and she did not hit d guy wit her car. Her car has got no dent.

Investigator, TV Stations and all other media outfits, please kindly help look into this as suspect may be innocent and she should not suffer for what she did not do. Please help spread the word.

  1. Agreed may be she was wrong. But she remains a suspect until she is proven guilty. Besides some eye witnesses say the LASTMA official was actually crushed by another danfo driver not the lady. Lets all hope that the truth is unraveled and we don't have another case of punishing an innocent person

  3. THESE LASTMA GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF TOUTS. AREN’T THERE BETTER WAYS OF APPREHENDING LAW BREAKERS THAN CHASING OR STANDING IN FRONT OF A MOVING VEHICLE? AND YET FASHOLA SAYS HE CAN HANDLE A STATE POLICE WHEN LASTMA HAS ALMOST BECOME A TRAGEDY

  4. Despite the fact that someone breaks a traffic law, standing in front of a moving car is stupidity of the highest order,i live in London,i see how enforcement agencies go about their daily duties like Met police, transport police e.t.c,i compare it to the way Nigeria police especially the Lastma carry out their duties,it makes me sad.70% of Lastma official are ex bus drivers, political thugs and tout,I had an encounter with a Lastma official,to my greatest surprise he cannot express himself in English. There should be a referendum on this Lastma issue,The kind of people employed, whtat is thier qualification, also their aims and objectives,Are they on the road to maintain orderliness and maintain free flow of transport or to extort money from commuters.I cherish orderliness,we need Lastma.Long live Lastma long live Fashola

  5. its good to get facts right. For some reason, LASTMA is using this news as PR for their new traffic law, when this is not what exactly happened.. She was arrested alright for driving in the wrong lane but it was a Danfo that knocked down and killed the LASTMA officer. Her vehicle does not even have a single dent. I have spoken to the person the person this morning. Newspaper houses like punch should be sued for carrying news report that is not verified.

  6. If d government punishes dis woman 4 violating traffic laws its accepted but if she's punished 4 someone else's stupidity then it is unfair, it is stupidity 4 d dead fool 2 hav stood in front of a moving vehicle in d 1st instance & like eyewitnesses said d woman is not even d one who drove d danfo dat crushed d fool. Dis will also serve as a lesson 2 those dat goes about doing their jobs without thinking.
