Makoko Update: Makoko Residents Storm Lagos State Government House


Thousands of policemen were deployed around the Makoko community waterfront this morning to engage in further demolition of homes of some 70,000 urban poor in the historic community.

Made homeless, the Makoko residents have poured into the streets right now, on their way to the Governor's office in Alausa, Ikeja to display their displeasure against their displacement.

Several local chiefs in the community, youths, elders, market women both on water and on land united to engage in the mass protest today.

Tragedy had struck on Saturday at the Makoko waterfront, when a police corporal shot and killed one of the residents who were appealing for more time to pack their properties before the demolition of their homes.



The homeless Makoko residents are saying they have no idea where they will even sleep tonight.
