Well here’s something new. In a true display of the undying love of a
parent, a Pennsylvania mother has hacked into a school computer system
to alter the grades of her children. As opposed to taking a more
traditional approach and helping her kids prepare for their exams of
even punishing them for poor performances, 45 year old Catherine Venusto
of New Tripoli hacked into the computer system at Northwestern Lehigh
School District, where she worked between 2008 and April 2011, to give
the little ones a push. She changed her daughter’s grade from an ‘F’ to
an ‘M’ (for Medical) in June 2010 and, even more curiously, changed her
son’s score from 98 to 99 percent.
According to her, she committed out of “curiosity and boredom”, but
the school’s district clearly thinks different, judging from the press
release which states that “The acts were intentional, criminal action to
obtain protected information.”
“The Northwestern Lehigh School District discovered illegal,
unauthorized access to several computer systems in late February.” the
release also stated. “Superintendent Dr. Mary Anne Wright said the
District took immediate steps to protect student and staff information
including shutting down the student information system, and quickly
instituted steps to enhance security. At that time, the matter was
turned over to the PA State Police at Fogelsville.”
The mother of two also claims she was unaware her actions were illegal, but concedes that they were “unethical”.
