Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen Saturday morning unleashed terror on six villages of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State as they massacred over 23 persons and severely injured at least 50 others.

The gunmen who were dressed in military camouflage and bullet proof breast plates  raided  Kakuruk, Kuzen Ngyo, Kogoduk, Ruk, and Dogo villages , all in Gashish district, operating from one house to the other for close to two hours.

An eyewitness who escaped narrowly said he could only liken the gory sight of many corpses he saw to that of a war field. He said a body of a mobile policeman in uniform was among the “hundreds” of corpses he saw while he was escaping.

Member representing Barkin Ladi constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Gyang Fulani, who confirmed the attack to newsmen on phone,  said “Fulani mercenary stormed six villages in Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government of the state in large number, early hours of Saturday and shot sporadically at the innocent villagers, and in the end so many people were left dead, while over 50 others were severely injured, and at least 60  houses burnt.”

Also confirming the attack, member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Simon Mwadkwon,  said “already 20 corpses have been recovered already”. He lamented the incessant attacks on innocent people of his constituency.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command, ASP Abu Emmanuel, also confirmed the attack.
