Rainstorm on Tuesday night damaged over 40
residential buildings in Nru community, Nsukka Local Government Area of
Enugu State, forcing the residents to seek shelter in neighbouring
communities.
As at Wednesday when our correspondent visited Nru,
some of the affected residents were seen taking shelter outside their
damaged houses.
Also destroyed were the parish house belonging to the
Holy Redeemer Catholic Church as well as administrative and classroom
blocks of Government Technical College, Nsukka.
The councillor representing the community, Mr.
Celestine Ogbu, said the incident was the first in the community and
added that the indigenes were grateful to God that no life was lost.
He said, “We have not seen this kind of disaster
before in this community. You can see that countless residential houses,
including a church and a secondary school have been destroyed by the
storm.
“Presently, the affected people are now taking refuge
in houses of their friends and relations, while some are still sleeping
or doing other domestic activities in their compounds.”
