Twenty-four vehicles of different types were burnt in a fresh crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crash took place at the same spot where 10 trucks got burnt at a
spot near Danco Filling Station outward Lagos at 11.45p.m on Friday
night, according to an alert by the Federal Road Safety Commission.
The vehicles are one saloon car, five minibuses, one luxury bus, 11 trailers, four tankers and two pickup vans.
A total of 176 people were affected by the incident although none of them was killed.
Commanding Officer, FRSC RS 2 (Lagos and Ogun states commands),
Assistant Corps Marshal Demola Lawal, confirmed the crash, saying two
persons were injured.
The cause of the crash was a fire that broke out from a tanker after it
upturned on the expressway and fuel started gushing out of its hold.
The gushing fuel led to a fire that affected the other vehicles.
Road safety officials, policemen and firemen swiftly deployed in the
scene although the 24 vehicles continued to burn till Saturday morning.
The earlier crash on Thursday had caused a gridlock that extended into Friday.
Road users spent between four and five hours between Redemption Camp and Sagamu Interchange between Thursday and Friday.
Many road users had to divert to Old Lagos-Sagamu Road, which also led to a gridlock.
